With all the other good BitTorrent clients out there for the Mac now, it's hard to make the case for using the official BitTorrent client for downloading torrents. (Note that this confusingly named application shares its name with the company, entertainment network, and popular protocol BitTorrent.) The current interface is much more clean and useful than in previous iterations, and BitTorrent does deliver on what it promises, with features like automatic port mapping and local peer discovery. But with well over a year since the last update and scant documentation, BitTorrent just hasn't kept up with the competition.
Overall, we think BitTorrent does a fairly good job, but with some slow response times, a lack of development, and a noticeably aged interface, you might want to look elsewhere. Same problem, similar delay before crashing. Happens every time, for about the last month. OSX 10.10.5 Tried BitTorrentStop All Services just after startup; still crashes. Problem Reporter shows the exception to be in a system library each time, tho I haven't always tracked the details.
The latest two tries gave identical crash reports: Exception Type: EXCGUARD Exception Codes: 0x000002, 0xab50c8 Process: BitTorrent 1586 Path: /Applications/BitTorrent.app/Contents/MacOS/BitTorrent Identifier: com.bittorrent.BitTorrent Version: 7.4.3 (41340) Code Type: X86 (Native) Parent Process:??? I think I have fixed the issue on my Mac. From what I understand, I think it may have been a botched auto-update? First, go to utilities, then select disk utilities.
You should then see lots of BitTorrents mounted that are about 152MB. Eject all of these using the little eject button. Now, use the first aid option on your main disk that has OSX installed on it. Next, you need to open BitTorrent and wait for it to crash as usual.ensure that BitTorrent is closed (quit). Now, reopen disk utility from the utilities folder and right click on the newly mounted bittorent image. Now click 'show in Finder' or similar.
It should open an image where you can drag the application to a shortcut of the applications folder (just like when you install most apps from mounted dmgs). You should now be able to open BitTorrent and it shouldn't crash any longer as I believe it should have updated. I hope this works for others. I am doing this from memory, but I'm sure that you get the gist of what I am saying. Try this solution, as suggested in other thread.
